Proactiv
Solution is an over the counter topical acne treatment
designed to
treat mild to moderate cases of acne. Proactiv
solution was
developed by dermatologists and was one of the first acne treatments on
the market to take advantage of dermatological research of the early to
mid 1980s that suggested new methods of treating acne.
Proactiv solution consists of benzoyl peroxide, an antibacterial
substance that is the base of many common topical acne
treatments. Unfortunately, benzoyl peroxide is not well
tolerated
by some, and can cause rash and dry skin in some patients.
Unlike earlier topical acne treatments, which consisted of five to ten
percent benzoyl peroxide, Proactiv Solution utilizes a lower, 2.5% dose
combined with a moisturizing agent. Because of lower dose of
benzoyl peroxide, in combination with the moisturizing agent, Proactiv
Solution does not excessively dry the skin like earlier treatments.
